Young Panthers Step into Parliament
On 10th April 2025, a group of young people from Newham Panthers FC CIC were given a rare and inspiring opportunity to visit the House of Parliament. As part of our youth-led podcast series, they sat down for an exclusive interview with our local MP, Sir Stephen Timms.
The session opened the floor for honest, thought-provoking questions on issues close to their hearts—knife crime, community safety, youth unemployment, and the lack of funding for grassroots organisations like ours.
A Life-Changing Experience
For many of our participants, this was their first time stepping inside one of the UK’s most iconic and historic institutions. Coming from underrepresented and disadvantaged communities, the visit was more than just a field trip—it was a transformational moment. They witnessed how government policy is debated and shaped, and saw firsthand that their voices matter.
Sir Stephen Timms shared:
“I was delighted to welcome young players from Newham Panthers FC CIC to Parliament today. Their curiosity, confidence, and commitment to positive change in their community was inspiring.”
“Initiatives like Newham Panthers are vital. In addition to football coaching, they also provide leadership development, purpose, and hope for the next generation in Newham.”
Youth Reflections
Our young player Fonti shared his thoughts on the experience:
“It was a very informative interview that gave me an insight into what happens in Parliament, and what MPs are doing to support the youth.”
Inspiring the Next Generation—On and Off the Pitch
This visit reflects the ongoing mission of Newham Panthers FC CIC: to equip, empower, and elevate the youth of our community—not just in football, but in life. We believe every young person should have access to leadership opportunities, experiences beyond their environment, and a platform to make real change.
Thank you to Sir Stephen Timms and everyone who helped make this powerful moment possible.
